Sunday April 26, 2026

NOVA RPCV recently received a request to support an Albania Information and Communication Technology Women and Girls in Development Peace Corps Partnership (PCP) project sponsored by a PCV serving in Albania.

As budgetary constraints currently limit NOVA RPCV grants, we wish to encourage individuals who find this project worthwhile to donate individually through the PCP Donation website (https://www.peacecorps.gov/donate/projects/?volunteer_home_state=VA).  If you do choose to donate, please consider noting your affiliation to NOVA RPCV.

GLOW Code 2026

Description

The Girls Leading Our World with Code (GLOW Code) program aims to create a future where girls and women can develop strong digital leadership skills and expand their opportunities.  The program focuses on training, skills transfer and strengthening local knowledge by involving community members in an activity shaped by local priorities.  Peace Corps Volunteers and community partners will guide girls as they learn coding, problem‑solving, and practical leadership tools that can support their future academic and professional paths.

The camp offers hands‑on instruction that builds confidence, teamwork, and new skills. University students studying computer science will return to their home communities during the summer to serve as mentors, creating a sustainable model where girls can grow from participants to Junior Instructors and, eventually, experienced mentors. This cycle encourages long‑term learning and helps reduce the loss of local talent by offering meaningful ways for youth to contribute within their community.

The program will take place in a small town that has not previously had educational camps like this. Although many girls in the area are ambitious and motivated, they have few opportunities for summer learning or extracurricular activities. By offering access to digital skills and leadership training, the project begins to address an important gap in opportunity for girls. Entering its fourth program cycle in 2026, the initiative aims to expand to more communities and inspire girls to become confident digital creators.
