2026 NOVA RPCV Board Election Results

The 2026 NOVA RPCV Board election was held in accordance with the organization’s by-laws.

At the time of the election, the organization had 101 members in good standing. The quorum requirement of 25 members (25%) was met through 23 online votes with attestations and 5 on-site votes with 28 votes.

The offices of President and Secretary were uncontested. All votes cast supported the candidates.

The following individuals were elected:

  • President: Kamana Mathur
  • Secretary: Brenda Dean

Additionally, Hailey Sorrell has been appointed as Third Goal Chair.

The Board thanks all members who participated and looks forward to advancing the Peace Corps mission locally through community building, service, and Third Goal education.

President – Kamana Mathur

Kamana Mathur is an Immigration Attorney, former U.S. Diplomat, and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Nepal). She brings decades of leadership experience across diplomacy, public service, and community engagement. Her career includes serving as Community Relations Officer for USCIS, President of the American Immigration Lawyers’ Association Pittsburgh Chapter, and Deputy Press Attaché with the U.S. Mission to NATO.

Most recently, Kamana founded the Reston Town Center Social Squad to build inclusive community connections in Northern Virginia. She is committed to strengthening NOVA RPCV, deepening intergenerational engagement, and advancing the Peace Corps mission locally through community building, service, Third Goal education, and outreach.

Secretary – Brenda Dean

Brenda Dean served as a TEFL Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand and later as Peace Corps staff in Washington, DC, Slovakia, Macedonia, and Kosovo. Her service spanned program closures and reopenings, 9/11, COVID, and countless volunteer journeys.

Brenda’s career includes international education leadership, exchange program development, and 15 years with USDA Forest Service International Programs, where she led global partnerships and operational improvements. A trained leadership coach and organizational consultant, Brenda brings deep systems thinking and commitment to mission-driven collaboration.

She recently retired from federal service and resides in Arlington.

Third Goal Chair – Hailey Sorrell

Hailey Sorrell recently completed her Peace Corps service as a Youth Leadership Volunteer in Panama. During her service, she partnered with local leaders to implement youth programming, sports clinics, and community service initiatives. A Vienna native, Hailey is excited to reconnect locally and promote Peace Corps engagement in Northern Virginia.
