Summer Potluck Gathering Sunday, June 28th

Join us for our Summer Potluck Gathering on Sunday, June 28th at 5pm!  This event will be held in the home of Cameroon and Zambia RPCVs Tom and Felice Kennedy in Vienna.

At the gathering, Tom Carroll (RPCV Lesotho) who currently teaches a course: “Cultural Anthropology of a Multicultural Nation” focusing on migration and immigration trends in the United States and Kamana Mathur (RPCV Nepal), an immigration attorney and former Consular Officer with the Department of State, who taught a course entitled “Why Our Immigration System is Broken and How We Can Fix It” will discuss the State of Immigration in America.  The dialogue will be informative, shedding light on our current immigration landscape and proposing practical solutions.

Speakers

Tom Carroll, Ph.D., is a cultural anthropologist who served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho in 1967-69. He did research at Clark University and Columbia University. He was a U.S. Department of Education Senior Program Officer and CEO of the National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future.  He currently teaches a course: “Cultural Anthropology of a Multicultural Nation” at OLLI George Mason, focusing on migration and immigration trends in the United States.

Kamana Mathur is an immigration attorney, former Consular Officer with the Department of State, and Asylum Officer and Public Diplomacy Officer with USCIS.  Kamana has a law degree from George Washington University and taught a course entitled “Why Our Immigration System is Broken and How We Can Fix It” at OLLI George Mason and OSHER at Carnegie Mellon.

We will take the opportunity to mix and mingle while sharing a meal – bring your favorite dish or cuisine from your host country.  We encourage you to wear something that represents your country of service.
