Please join NoVa RPCVs for a special concert of DakhaBrakha!
Saturday, November 15th at 7:30 pm at the Birchmere in Alexandria
DakhaBrakha is a Ukrainian world music quartet. A winner of the Sergey Kuryokhin Contempoary Art Award in 2009 and the Shevchenko National Prize in 2020, DakhaBrakha has added the rhythms of the surrounding world into their music, thus creating bright, unique and unforgettable images. Using “ethnic chaos” to reflect the fundamental elements of sound and soul, DakhaBrakha creates a world of unexpected new music.
DakhaBrakha was originally a project of the Ukrainian avant-garde theater Dakh and its artistic director Vladislav Troitsky. Theatre work has left its mark on the band’s performances — their shows have never been staged without the scenic effects. Performing in June 2014 at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival held in Manchester, Tennessee, they were proclaimed by Rolling Stone as the “Best Breakout” of the festival”. They have since performed in Hungary, England, Latvia, New York, Texas and Louisiana. Their music was featured in several films including in 2024 as the soundtrack for the Ukrainian/American documentary antiwar film Porcelain War about Ukrainian artists creating beautiful art amidst the war.
