Meet PC Director Aaron Williams (under Barack Obama) on 10/12/25

Director Aaron S. Williams is an international development expert and a former diplomat. He served as the 18th Director of the Peace Corps from 2009 to 2012 under President Barack Obama where he re-opened Peace Corps programs in Colombia, Sierra, and Indonesia and created new programs in Africa, through partnerships with the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, the President’s Malaria Initiative and the Feed the Future Initiative.
Williams grew up in Chicago where he graduated from Chicago State University and became a teacher. He volunteered for the Peace Corps for three years, working in the Dominican Republic to support teacher training projects. After his PC service, Williams served in the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) for 22 years. He published “A Life Unimagined” – about a career devoted to public service and the betterment of others; a life story that reveals front line glimpses into the complex interactions of international development and US foreign policy, and also the power of hard work, determination, and drive.
We will take the opportunity to host Potluck – bring your favorite dish or cuisine from your host country.
