Enjoyed a lovely morning with fellow RPCVs (including Steph Shelton and Michael Svetlik from RPCV/W) as we welcomed a new PCV heading overseas! We each were asked a question and mine was what strength did I gain from my Peace Corps experience. My response: resilience! When I think back to riding the oxen carts for 7 hours one-way to my village from the nearest road, taking bucket showers with 1/2 bucket of water, learning a new local language where most individuals are illiterate and adjusting to a new culture where you rarely are alone, it’s amazing to me how we can not only adapt but thrive. I learned so much and was challenged in ways I never would have imagined! A special thanks to Peace Corps recruiter Lynare Robbins who kindly invited NOVA RPCV to the send off. It was so inspiring to hear from fellow RPCVs and meet the new volunteer. We look forward to the next send off!
